Genetic research & autism in ATL

ByAtlanta Autism Consortium Hours May 10, 2016January 13, 2025

Emory Autism Center SPARKing Research

The Emory Autism Center has been selected, among 20 other leading national research institutions, to launch the Simons Foundation Powering Autism Research for Knowledge, or SPARK, a research initiative intended to become the largest autism study ever undertaken in the United States. SPARK will be sponsored by the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative and will collect information and DNA from 50,000 individuals with autism, as well as their families, for genetic analysis. It is hoped that this analysis will increase researchers’ understanding of the causes of autism, as well as work for new supports and treatments. Catherine Rice, director of the Emory Autism Center, will lead the Atlanta division of SPARK.

For more information, including how to participate in SPARK, please visit this link.
